PROJECT
The site design for this Seattle School District STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering + Math) school was coordinated with the STEM curriculum. The approach for the landscape utilizing this concept translates into an environmental education. For this particular school we integrated various themes such as a native and rain gardens with planting used by Native Americans for stormwater management. Other features included a nurse log to demonstrate the forest life cycle and a butterfly garden. A large existing oak tree on site was preserved and provided an opportunity to create an outdoor classroom under the canopy. A stone circle marked the space under the tree for seating.
