Counterbalance Park

PROJECT

The design invites people who live and work in the neighborhood to use the park at all times of day. Smaller, intimate spaces are created for individuals and small, informal gatherings during the lunch hour, while larger open areas are provided to accommodate neighborhood festivals, farmers markets, and cultural events. High-branching, single trunk trees provide an overhead canopy and sense of enclosure while maintaining view corridors. LED illuminated walls define the edges of the park and becomes a transformative space in the evening. The neighborhood transitions into a vibrant entertainment district of theaters and restaurants.
