PROJECT
As part of our involvement in the Westside Light Rail Transit project, the scope was to redesign Collins Circle, a traffic roundabout the Goose Hollow neighborhood on the edge of downtown Portland. The large, tilted stone sculpture brings to mind the burial mounds and megaliths of historic cultures, as well as the volcanic activity that has shaped the landscape of the Pacific Northwest over hundreds of years. The stone circle is punctuated with standing stones and three gnarled Sumac trees that elegantly engage with ever-changing natural light. Whether viewed through a car or train, Collins Circle is an evolving place of mystery and surprise.
